Body Lift

Patients who have lost large amounts of weight, usually 100 pounds or more, are often left with sagging skin and fat on their bodies. Our plastic surgeon may be able to improve your situation with a body lift.

A body lift is performed to help tone and tighten sagging skin that results from losing a significant amount of weight.

Patients who lose a significant amount of weight often feel they can't enjoy the weight loss because of the sagging skin and fat that can remain, regardless of diet and exercise.

Your plastic surgeon will customize the body lift to your particular needs. Because loose, sagging skin can become a hygienic and/or health issue, it's important to address the condition.

If you are looking at a complete lower body lift, your surgeon will most likely perform surgery on your buttocks, tummy, waist, hips, thighs, and back if needed. We will make a circumferential incision around your body to remove extra fat and skin while altering the tissue to give the skin a more toned, tighter look. Your surgeon will secure the incisions with sutures.

A body lift can take anywhere from three to six hours and is performed under general anesthesia. You may be hospitalized for one to two nights, with bed rest during the first 24 hours. You will also need to wear a compression garment during recovery. Most patients are fully recovered after six weeks.
