Liposuction is a procedure we can perform to contour your body and reduce the appearance of fat bulges.
Liposuction is a procedure to refine and contour the body by removing fat cells that remain regardless of diet and exercise.
For patients who have tried diet, exercise, and everything else to reduce fat in areas like the tummy, legs, arms, breasts, and more, liposuction might be exactly what you're looking for.
Our plastic surgeon performs liposuction on patients with firm skin elasticity who are at a healthy weight and have areas of fat that diet and exercise won't eliminate.
To perform liposuction, we use the tumescent method. Your surgeon first injects a saline, painkiller, and epinephrine solution into the area being treated. The solution helps reduce pain and loss of blood, while making it easier to remove fat. Then with a suction-type tool or syringe, we can remove the fat through small incisions.
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Recovery usually takes about two weeks.
Dr. Wade Kubat, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, discusses liposuction.
Talk about liposuction.
There are different layers of fats: the superficial or deep layers of fat. It's more than just removing fat through a small tube. You have to be mindful of the quantity that you're removing in certain areas as well as being gentle to decrease the amount of post-operative pain and post-operative bleeding. It's not as simple as just sucking out the fat. There's more involved to it, and that's why you go to a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Why is it important to take precautions when performing liposuction?
If liposuction is performed too aggressively or not in a controlled manner, you can have hollowing and divoting. These significant contour irregularities can be almost permanent and extremely difficult to correct. We are aggressive, but conservatively aggressive, the first time we do liposuction. If a bunch of localized fat is removed without being mindful of the areas of support structure, it will cause a lot of saggy skin that will need to be addressed and cause extra scars that will need to be surgically excised. Being mindful of the proper anatomy as well as support structures is necessary for proper liposuction.
Does liposuction take multiple procedures?
Usually not. There will be a small amount of individuals who will need to have small refinements performed, but we're trying to accomplish the majority of these procedures at one time.
